Happy #WeddingWednesday, Planner Friends! It’s officially 2018, and we hope you’re gearing up for another successful year of wedding planning. We’re beyond excited to kick off The Bridal Society blog in 2018 with a Society Planner Spotlight featuring Joel Parra of Just Planned Events.
Since receiving his wedding planning certification from The Bridal Society in April of 2016, Joel has run a successful business with its mission to ensure that every engaged couple would be able to plan the wedding of their dreams while being stress free. His passion for wedding planning came from the organized lifestyle he lives and his love for creating happiness for others. While serving his clients well at Just Planned Events, Joel also serves our TBS members as the Member Benefit Director.

What do you love most about being a wedding planner?
What I love most about being a wedding planner is that every couple is unique and different so it is always a new challenge. No couple is ever the same and I always am able to create a great relationship with them.
What is your average week like?
My average week consists of phone conference calls, in person meetings, marketing/advertising idea fulfillments, and updating templates.
What advice can you give and/or have you received that you can pass on to new/existing planners?
Never give up. Keeping moving forward. Building a wedding/event planning company does not happen overnight and it is not easy. You have to keeping working towards your goal and self motivate.
What is one item you cannot live without on a wedding day?
My clipboard (that includes my timeline, contracts, vendor list, music list, photo list, menu, etc.). This is what keeps me sane during wedding days, without it I would be completely lost even though I know everything that the timeline says but without it I would be anxious.
How do you feel The Bridal Society has helped your career?
The Bridal Society was really the beginning of my career as an event planner. Through taking the course, I learned what it meant to be a wedding planner and how to fully plan, coordinate, and execute an event. Not only that but I also learned how to run the business and market to my target market. Beyond the two day course I am happily a member of our secret group on Facebook where the amount of support I receive keep my motivations high on making my company a leader in the industry in Boston.
What is your favorite moment on a couple’s wedding day?
My favorite moment on a wedding day is the first dance. Before becoming a wedding planner, every time I thought about getting married I would think of the first dance and what song I would choose. The song couples choose for their first dance give a glimpse of the kind of couple they are. It is one of the most intimate moments you could ever share with your family and friends.
What is your favorite activity when not coordinating a wedding?
I love to shop, travel, and visit my family when I am not coordinating a wedding. I am also in my last year of college so I also have to work on that.
What is your favorite benefit that The Bridal Society offers?
My favorite benefit The Bridal Society offers are the various partnerships that assist us in making our company better. Whether it be Xedo for tux rentals or Wedding Wire discounts for marketing, they all give every member the opportunity to grow their company.
